Repair broken, damaged or decayed back teeth with inlays & onlays
Inlays & Onlays in Richmond, London
Restore a broken, chipped or badly decayed tooth.
Dental inlays and onlays are used to rebuild a tooth at the back of the mouth when it has lost a large amount of its structure due to decay or trauma. Just like dental crowns, dental inlays and onlays are made by a specialist technician in a dental lab and then cemented into place by our dentist.
The difference between the two is that dental inlays are placed within the cusps of the tooth whereas dental onlays repair or replace the cusps themselves. Inlays and onlays can be constructed using a variety of materials including porcelain, gold or composite.
Our dentist at Kew Road Dental will need to assess the condition of the molar first before recommending if a dental inlay or onlay is the best restorative solution. Then the normal procedure will require two appointments, firstly to prepare the tooth surface, then a second appointment to fit the dental inlay or onlay perfectly into place.
A local anaesthetic is usually administered in order for our dentist to remove any decay. An impression of your teeth will then be taken which will be sent to the dental laboratory for your dental inlay or onlay to be custom made. Whilst your new dental inlay or onlay is being made, a temporary restoration may be placed onto your tooth to protect it.
When your inlay or onlay is ready for fitting, Kew Road Dental will contact you to book a convenient appointment where it will be carefully cemented into position. Our dentist will endeavor to make sure your new dental inlay or onlay not only fits perfectly, but ensure your bite is comfortable and that you’re happy with the final appearance.
